Prisym ID
An international pharmaceutical technology provider, delivering an enterprise-grade ERP system to some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world
Plug & Play designed and developed the front-end of a world leading ERP system for big pharma, rebuilding a decade of front-end technical debt into a modern, cloud-ready platform.
The team collaborated on an embedded basis, providing technical digital transformation consultation, UX/UI design and front-end development.
Prisym ID's ERP platform manages product lifecycle, multilingual labelling and regulatory compliance for major pharmaceutical manufacturers, a system with zero tolerance for instability. Years of organic growth had left it with an inconsistent design language, ageing and unsupported JavaScript dependencies, and a front end growing more fragile with every browser update.
PrisymID needed a front end capable of carrying the product into a cloud-based future, without asking pharma clients to relearn a system they use every day.
The client recognised the scale of the project ahead and wanted a deep, evidence-based assessment of which JavaScript framework would best support their software and circumstances before committing to what would become a multi-million-pound project.
To get that first step right, Plug & Play ran a coordinated proof of concept with the internal development team — building a comparison matrix and developing a working slice of the product to stress-test framework options across a wide range of considerations. React came out on top on technical merit and was selected as the foundation for the project.
Plug & Play ran as an extension of Prisym ID's team throughout delivery, working alongside a mid-sized internal software development team and two product managers to coordinate this large and complex project. Embedded from the framework decision through to final delivery.
The process involved:
Plug & Play lead the process on UX/UI, but given the deep context required, collaborated daily with internal Product Managers and Customer Success leads within the client's business to bring frontline product context into every design decision.
This enabled innovation and that collaboration produced the development of a design system capable of holding together a 1,000+ page product estate. Simplifying complex functionality, cutting navigation overhead, and replacing fragmented interface patterns with one coherent system.
Prisym ID now runs on a modernised, standardised front end built on a current, well-supported framework. The design system Plug & Play built leaves PrisymID’s own team able to manage and extend the platform independently, with the front end now positioned for the move to a cloud-based product offering.
